VIBE’s Daily Additions to the ‘Pod

1. Rick Ross – “911″
Fresh off a dope collaboration with Andre 3000, Ross goes back to this simpleton shit. Come on Ross—another Lex Luger-type beat paired with a repetitive chorus? Really?

2. Papoose (feat. Nathaniel) – “Boo’d Up”
Given that ‘Poose ripped the whole “I Love You” beat with no changes, “Boo’d Up” makes you want to throw on some throwback Faith Evans rather than give this a replay.

3. Shawn Chrystopher – Love Story [Mixtape]
With legendary producer Timbaland on board, the pressure is on to make something memorable. While this doesn’t make you want to run out and force your friends to hit the download button, it’s definitely good enough to make you stop and pay attention to the kid. The production is certainly on point, but then again it’s Timbaland behind the wheel. Standout tracks include “One of My Homies,” The Dom Kennedy-assisted “Situation,” and “Hi(gh).”

4. Homeboy Sandman – “Brown”
We didn’t think a hip-hop song could make you feel so tranquil. Maybe it’s the chimes, or the angel-like crooning that drops in at points throughout the song, but this one is good to relax to.

5. Jon Connor – While You Were Sleeping [Mixtape]
Jon Connor proves that you don’t need a bunch of big-name features to make a hot mixtape. The biggest names you’ll see on this are Bun B, GLC, & Kid Ink, but they surely aren’t the only reasons to check this one out. Airy beats (like “Diamonds”), head-boppers (see “Something I Know”), and tracks that would make 9th Wonder proud (listen to “Same Change”) fill this up to the brim. Definitely a good listen overall.
